Africa

Middle East (Click here)

The vast continent of Africa spans over 30 million square kilometers. The continent’s diversity is represented in the cultural heritage of its people and the beauty of its resources. Yet this continent struggles through the effects of colonialism, political and economic instability, and disease. Africa is of cultural strategic interest to the United States and the developed world in general. True worldwide economic and political stability cannot be achieved without Africa addressing and solving these problems.

Utah State University seeks to partner with African Universities, governments,  and others in order to strengthen the capacity of African higher education institutions, as well as the faculty and staff at USU, to address the region’s human resource needs, increase the development of new knowledge and technology, and deepen Africa’s engagement in economic, social, and political development.  Our professors, students, and partners are joining in the effort to contribute to building the human capital present in Africa and retaining the valuable resources of the many African nations.

Improving Pastoral Risk Management via Livelihood Diversification in Ethiopia and Kenya (PARIMA)

A downward spiral in African pastoral systems due to population growth, drought, environmental degradation, and lack of development investment has led to an increase in famine relief . Dr. Coppock and his USU team of African professionals seek turn life around for over 2,300 individuals in southern Ethiopia.
